While the Autumn Elves journey out into the world destroying potential threats, the Spring Elves protect their homelands from anything that may wish the Elves harm. Aspen is one ofthe youngest entrusted with this serious duty. lt's obvious to others that she craves the excitement and action offered by being in the Autumn Branch. In an hundred years or so, when she's learned to control her impulses, then she might get what she wants. For now, she patrols the outskirts of Elven lands with the aid of her tame, giant elk Kawiki. Between Kawiki's giant size and large antlers, which have been specially sharpened, and Aspen's undoubted skills at archery and knife fighting,the elven homelands are kept secure.
What could have been a tense encounter when we accidentally strayed too close to Elven territory ended up being one of the best experiences we've had in our travels. Aspen was approachable and friendly when she realized we weren't a threat. Her interest in exploring outside her home and in hearing tales of what lies outside led to her speaking to us for hours. Almost all the information we've learned about her people has come from our conversations with her. We're hopeful that through her, we can become allies with other members of the elven community.
