Character Bio

Men were indeed more foolish and more cruel than the beasts of the jungle.

The only son of Lord and Lady Greystroke, John Clayton was born on the west coast of Africa after his parents were marooned by mutinying sailors. His parents died when he was still an infant and the boy was raised by Kala, a member of the great apes known as the Mangani.

Named Tarzan by his new family, the boy quickly found his place among the tribe, becoming a skilled tracker and hunter in the process. Tarzan of the Apes possesses skills superior to those of a normal man. He can climb and leap as well as any ape and has super-human strength, endurance and agility. Tarzan is extremely intelligent and taught himself how to read from books his parents left behind. Later, as he encountered humans more frequently, he became fluent in several languages including French and English. As a man, he is generous and loyal to his friends while being an implacable and unbeatable opponent to his foes.

His skills having inflamed the jealousy of Kerchack, king of the apes, Tarzan was attacked by the fierce beast, who had been responsible for the death of Tarzan's father. By defeating Kerchack, Tarzan was acclaimed king of the apes by the Mangani. Now he serves his tribe by protecting them from those humans who, fueled by greed, would encroach upon and destroy the habitats in the pursuit of money and power.
