Historical Documentation:
The River Styx is the barrier that divides the Earth from the underworld. It is filled with trapped souls that cannot enter Hades nor return to Earth. The Styx's waters contain mystical power. Imbibing the liquid grants a mortal invulnerability, the ability to speak to the dead, the power to know the secrets of others and prophecy. These abilities are jealously horded by the Gods and are guarded by these elite warriors. Styx Guardians fight off intruders trying to rescue the souls of loved ones or attempting to obtain supernatural abilities. When a mortal is thwarted by the River Styx Guardian, the doomed soul is plunged into the waters, trapping them there for eternity.
Temporal Log:
Hades' stretched his forces thin by engaging the Gorgon Horde in the world above. He himself was often absent, directing his armies of Tartarus Guards and Underworld Warriors. While he left an army to manage Tartarus, having the River Styx Guardians there to watch over the enchanted waters certainly took some of the pressure off. However, with Hades' forces under severe strain, a number of mortals were able to slip by the guards and steal water. Styx Guardians were oft times singularly minded.
